Youth Basketball and Volleyball Coaching

With decades of professional volleyball and basketball coaching, working with athletes of every age, we provide a safe space to grow and develop confidence. We go beyond physical training, to education, and true mentorship.

By shaping our basketball and volleyball training programs around the individual, instead of fitting young athletes into a predetermined box, we develop sport-specific competence and skill—and support real-world self-esteem along the way. We help kids and teens to develop a new understanding of what’s possible for them to achieve. Rather than checking off quick goals or aiming for unattainable perfection, we demonstrate the importance of perseverance and consistency.

We draw from proven, professional coaching strategies, while respecting Montana’s small-town creativity and passion of playing in a dirt lot with no boundary lines. No matter what someone’s background looks like, we’re here to help instill confidence and courage.

Our goal is for kids to feel invested in their game.

Meet Coach Shann Mack

Shann can’t remember a time when basketball and volleyball weren’t part of his life. “For me, sports are so much more than just that — they help us learn about our world, our lives, even ourselves.”

With two uncles coaching basketball at Montana State and Montana Western, Shann spent his childhood and teen years immersed in the world of sports. A sixth-generation Montanan growing up in Three Forks, he enthusiastically watched, played, and learned. A self-described “gym rat,” Shann often joined the older athletes for drills at after-school practices.

His own athletic career always overlapped the roles of athlete and coach — beginning with managing the local high school volleyball team at the age of eight, continuing into his college years, as both volleyball player and coach at MSU. "I believe playing the game for so long has made me a better coach — and understanding the game from a strategic, coaching perspective can make someone a stronger athlete. That’s why so much of my approach to coaching is based on mindset — on really helping kids get how their strengths fit in with gameplay strategy."

As a coach, Shann has brought his teams to record-breaking winning streaks, conference wins, and state championships, but what he’s most proud of is helping his athletes grow both as individuals and as part of a team.

Shann taught elementary school in his hometown of Three Forks for four years. He is currently the Three Forks Elementary P.E. teacher and a full-time volleyball and basketball coach. He enjoys camping with family, recreating and relaxing on the lake, and spending time with his dogs, Colonel Mustard and Petey Boy. Shann also loves fine dining — and watching any and every type of sport.

Basketball

  • Assistant Coach for Three Forks High School Girls’ Basketball Team 2013–2018 helped lead the team to a 3rd place finish at state in 2017, and a state championship in 2018.

  • Coach for the Three Forks Girls’ JV Basketball Team 2013-2018.

  • Mack is a sixth-generation Montanan, and a third-generation Bobcat. Basketball runs in his blood. Shann’s grandfather, Lindon Durham, played basketball for the Bobcats in the 1940s. His Uncle, Mick Durham, was the head men’s basketball coach at MSU for 16 seasons, so Shann grew up with a love for the game.

  • Shann started playing basketball at the age of 5 and continued until graduating from high school. He played on the Three Forks Mens’ Basketball team all four years of high school.
